3am Eternal

Across the rooftops of the world each night people dance.

Thursday was my turn. But like in most things, there has to be an acceptance that you will look very much like the fool for a while before the moves start to sort themselves out and then still there will be a lot of mistakes. But then the pull occurs, and the magnetism of the dance has you. You twist and turn, move to the music, and hope for more.

It takes you to another place where bills, health, work, troubles melt away and all that remains is the beating of your heart as the dance spins you in its inescapable rhythm. Yet there is a fear there, of placing yourself out on that seemingly empty floor and taking a risk. But you must run the gamut. I did and came out on the other side with a memory not easily forgotten. For when knees fail and time takes you on a spin of its own, that rooftop will still be there, and perhaps you'll remember back long ago when a gorgeous girl like Karla chanced you a smile, and the dance began.

So if you ever get the chance, spend one night, just one, and find a rooftop in your world and spend it dancing the Merengue until the 3 in the morning and experience the magic.
